Anubis the dog god. Anubis is closely associated with funerary rites and the afterlife. He was guide to the dead and the one who weighted the souls of the deceased against the feather of Maat (truth and order). It is unknown what type of animal Anubis is represented by, most likely a jackal or a wild dog, or a hybrid of both. Cats and dogs used to be holy animals in ancient Egypt, but not any more.
